Sandra Byrd trilogy

Piece de Resistance
Let Them Eat Cake
Bon Appetit

I read this trilogy by Sandra Byrd about a young woman who loved baking and decorating baked goods. Written by a Christian author, the books were void of sexual behavior, though full of searching for love. I enjoyed them because of the tidbits of baking, especially bread baking, which is a love of mine. Set in Seattle and then in a small town in France, I loved reading about the baking techniques, the surroundings, the people, the Christlike love, and the life struggles.

Also, it was inspiring to read of one church's attempt to employ, train, and put into the work force the homeless, jobless, and basically down-and-out folks. In the books, they were brought in, trained, and gradually given more responsibility.

Entertainment

Garnett is putting on a one-man play. She informed us it has about 5 acts, but each act is only about 2 minutes long.

Some of the best parts are when she is acting both characters simultaneously. She recites a line, then quickly jumps opposite and recites the answer. She even makes her own sound effects. This is keeping us in stitches!

So it opens with her receiving a letter from the king. "You have 3 weeks to determine if Shakespeare was real and if there is going to be another Shakespeare in the future. This is a decree from the King!"

We can't remember all the things that were said, but here are some....

""He walked thru fountains when he was in love??!!! This letter says that he did NOT walk thru fountains when he was in love! thank heavens!!"

Said in her best British accent (which she does very well since she listens to books on tape read by British actors. "how did we EVER let the Americans beat us?"

Acting as one player, she begins to walk and comments on the floor creaking. (she's walking on a cement slab, so we must imagine that the floor is creaking). The "actor" comments...

Worship

I remember prayers that I prayed when I was six. They had a depth of understanding to them, but yet a definite immaturity. Granted I was not being raised by a theologian father. But praying last Saturday night at dinner, the 6yo said "Thank you for this food, God, and help us to worship you fearfully tomorrow." Fearfully? wow... I don't think I had that concept of God when I was six.
